An Artist Removes Make-Up from Hollywood and Disney Dolls to Turn Them into Extraordinary Women

The Bratz dolls have long been criticized for their revealing outfits and heavy makeup. A lot of parents have raised concerns about what they teach children about women. So, an artist Wendy Tsao decided to give the Bratz dolls the makeover they desperately need.
“The dolls we find in toy stores today are often licenced Disney characters or the heroines of Hollywood blockbuster movies that capitalize on the pull of fantasy, fictional characters to young consumers,” Wendy Tsao said. “But there are real-life people who are heroes too, with inspiring stories of courage, intelligence, strength and uniqueness. Could children learn about and be
inspired by them through toys? In this project, I repainted and reclothed the manufactured dolls into the likeness of real, inspiring women – as young girls.”

The artist plans to begin selling the dolls on eBay.
