How To Upgrade Your Computer RAM Size From 1GB to 2GB, 3GB Or More By Yourself

Are you still contemplating if you can upgraded the installed memory size of your Computer system? The answer is YES. The RAM size of any laptop computer can be upgraded to improve it's speed. The full meaning of RAM is Random Access Memory. It is the device that is responsible for handling multitasking on your computer without making it freeze or hang.

When a computer has a very low RAM size like 512MB, it makes the computer run very slow especially when using applications like Photoshop, AutoCard, Image editing software, video/audio editing applications, or virtual machines like VirtualBox, VMare or using multiple programs at the same time. Today i will show you how to check the RAM size of your computer system, and also how to increase or upgrade the RAM size whenever you wish.

Yesterday, i installed PES 2014 PC game on my friend's computer with a 4GB RAM installed. It runs perfect and the speed was fine. My other friend came with a complaint that his PES 2014 PC game graphics was moving very slow and he want me to make it fast like the other guy''s own. I checked his RAM size, it was just 2GB then i told him that was the problem. He should upgrade his RAM size to 4GB.

How can i upgrade my computer RAM size to 4GB was the next question he asked me.

YES! you can upgrade a computer RAM but it depends on the computer processor. A computer that comes with a 1GB memory, there are chances that it can be upgraded to 2GB RAM. However, if you try to upgrade it above 2GB, there is a possibility that it might not work. 

So How Do I First Know My Computer RAM Size?

If you want to check the installed size of your computer memory, simply go to the desktop screen of your laptop. Look for the Computer icon on your desktop screen, right click on it and click on Properties. You will see what RAM Size (Installed Memory) your computer is running on.  As shown in the picture below.

So Now How To Upgrade Your Computer Memory Size?

Open the back of your computer where the slot space of the RAM is located.
1. If your computer is installed with only 1GB RAM with 512MB separately fixed on the two slots, you should remove the two 512MB RAM, then buy a 2GB RAM and insert it on one slot. It will work like that. But if only one slot is available with 1GB, you can buy another 1GB and insert it in the second slot to make it 2GB RAM.

2. On the other hand, if only one slot is available with 2GB RAM installed, you can buy another 2GB RAM and install it in the second slot to make it 4GB. But if you can get a 4GB RAM to buy, remove the installed 2GB RAM and replace it with the 4GB RAM instead.

Note that, a 32-bit version of Windows cannot use more than 4GB of RAM size. Unless you decides to h*ck it which i will publish here in my next post. But i will advice you to install a 64-bit version of Windows instead if you want to upgrade to more that 4GB RAM. Like that you will have no problem with your upgrade machine.

Using at least 2GB memory on your computer is advisable if all you do on your computer is play music, watch videos, light browsing, typing, and YouTube. But if you are a power user of Photoshop, graphics software, heavy video/audio editing or virtual machines, then i will advice you to upgrade to at least 4GB memory to prevent your system from hanging all the time.
