These Wi-Fi hotsopt powered software are free but you can upgrade to the Pro paid version to enjoy other amazing features. They worked for all versions of Windows operating system.
Tool no. 1. Using Virtual Router Manager to create Wi-Fi Hotspot
Virtual router is a simple application developed by the codeplex team that allows you to easily create a Wi-Fi hotspot on any computer. This software has a simple user interface that you can understand even without having any techy knowledge. All you need do is to run the software, add your SSID, choose a strong password and then select which connection you want to share.
1. Download Virtual Router Tool. Here
2. After downloading the tool, install it on your computer.
3. After installation, open the Virtual Router Manager and choose a network name. Choose SSID and also type in your password which must be at least 8 characters to protect your connection from unauthorized usage.
4. Then select the internet connection you would like to share with your friends.
5. After doing this, click on Start Virtual Router Manager.
That's all you have to do to setup your computer as a Wi-Fi hotspot device.
Now turn on wireless on your devices, you should see the network name, click on it to connect and enter the password you have created. You will now have access to internet from your computer.
Now you can connect more than one device on the same computer sharing the internet connection.
Note that, If you clicked on start Virtual Router Manager and get a message that "Group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation", all you need do is this.
Go to the start menu and search for CMD then right-click on it, then run as administrator when a DOS environment appears, just type this without quotes "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow" then hit enter. Now it should work well.
Tool no. 2. Using Connectify Tool to create Wi-Fi Hotspot
Connectify is another amazing Wi-Fi Hotspot creating tool you can use instead of Virtual Router. Infact it is one of the best alternative software for creating Wi-Fi hotspot with your computer. With Connectify tool, you don't need a hardware router to connect other handheld devices to access your computer internet connection in your home.
Whether you are using 3G internet service, Broadband connection or a LAN cable connection, Connectify can easily route other devices on the same network for you with just a click. To learn how connectify works, read the instructions below.
1. Download Connectify Software for your computer Here
2. Install it normally and restart your computer.
3. Now when your computer boots on, connectify will run automatically.
4. You can rename it if you like, and type your 8 digits password to encrypt the shared internet connection.
5. Choose the internet connection you want to share and select how you would like to share it. (Wi-Fi is the best but if your device is not wi-fi enabled, you can choose Bluetooth or any other method)
6. Now click on Start Hotspot and your Hotspot will be available to be searched and connected.
7. Open your mobile or other device Wi-Fi settings menu and search for available wifi connection and you will see the name of the hotspot connection you created with connectify displayed.
8. When you click on it, it will prompt you to enter a password. enter the 8 digit password you created. Now your device internet should be connected to your computer hotspot.
You can also check the number of people that are connected to your shared wireless internet connection if you want to keep track of them.
