Disadvantages of using a Shorten URL Link Service to Reduce your Website Address

Just like one of the advantages of using shorten URL link services is to reduce a web site's long address so that it can be used on social media sites like twitter.com, this services are not left without some disadvantages. There are arguably huge downside in using URL shortening services for your website or blog addresses. Although we use shortening URL services to get our site url either embed in a particular character space limited area provided by most social media sites like twitter which has only 140 limited space character to be used or just to make it memorable because the free blogging platform we are using comes with a long and cumbersome web address, so in other to engage in micro blogging, there is need to utilize the URL shortening services at least to save some few characters.

But like i said earlier, there are obviously a lot of disadvantages which i can't help but mention below.

Disadvantages of Using Shorten URL Link Service

1. Shorten URL can be misleading at times. that is, it offers no pointer to the reader and can't be easily assimilated. take for example a website URL which appears thus  can be easily discern but not something like this one http://bit.ly/H4DD4f

2. Shorten URL losses your site brand. that is, the actual address of a website starts with its Domain name for example mine starts with cyracksinternetbiz.com and it shouldn't be something of this nature bit.ly/etDmYt.

3. The actual URL of a website looks more descriptive and is easier to remember but the shorten URL is a bit not that easy to be remembered.

4. The service can shut down at any time and you will lose your link, unless if the website is financially viable like gool.gl but you never can tell

5. Shorten URL services are unsafe, it can pose a risk to safe browsing habits

6. Shorten URL services goes offline, when this services faces down time, and then what happens to your links, they becomes unavailable or dead.

So should i decline in using Shorten URL services?

Well my derision of URL shorten service shouldn't create that impression in you that they ain't safe to use at all, you can use them when necessary especially when you are running out of characters on twitter, you can use one of these Shorten URL link Service to reduce the length of the web page you want to use.
